Tom Fast Run Cycle

In one page of Preston Blair's book he has a four drawing run cycle of Tom. I decided to try and copy them. I realize it's no great feat to copy someone else's animation drawings and pass them off as your own but my goal when copying them was to pay attention to keeping them as close to the original drawings as possible. I have a tendency to get sloppy and have trouble keeping my drawings from getting smaller or larger from frame to frame.

I inked and colored it just for fun

Hey Kevin, those are great. It's always worth copying other people's stuff. It's how we learn! I guess you should think of how kids learn (as they do it FAST). They do crazy stuff that they make up, not following any particular rules, but they also try to copy stuff that they like the look of.

As for the colour, did you paint that on cells or did you do it digitally? Either way, I really like it!

Thanks Andy, I inked them and then scanned them into Flipbook and then colored it there.

What do you use to ink with? I have tried a number of different types of pen, including an inking pen and cell paint but haven't found one that gives a satisfactory line.

I used the smallest point ink pen I had for this. I purposely didn't want anything thick ink lines. Normally, I would use either a brush pen or just a brush (#3 I think) and Speedball India ink. Only problem is I don't think I'll ever produce a satisfactory line with a brush :)

what about the foot swoosh marks?

That was the same pen Mike. I didn't use a dry brush technique or anything. It's hard to see on that crappy resolution.

Lookin' good, Kevin! My only "observation" is that the fingers on Tom's left hand kinda jiggle around.

I salute you!

Thanks Craig, yeah I noticed that too. I really need to use a lightbox when I do this stuff, I'm much to sloppy.

Hi David, thanks for all the nice comments. I'm trying but I've got a long long way to go.
